Topic: An Introduction to Hand and Foot Surgery: Nursing Best Practices
This interactive presentation highlights nursing best practices in orthopedic nursing, particularly in hand and foot surgeries. The presenters will discuss ankle and wrist ORIF, sports-related injuries, total ankle and elbow replacement and brachial plexus injury. You will meet the talented nurses who get their patients get back in the game and find out about the rewards and challenges in working in Magnet-designated HSS.
Michael Castro, BSN, RN, CNOR
Michael has been an RN in the hand and Foot Surgery unit of HSS for eight years. He also worked in the in-patient care unit. In 2015 he received a Nursing Excellence award during Nurses’ Week.
John Frankelis, BSN, RN, OCN
John is a Clinical Nurse III at HSS and has extensive experience working with orthopedic patients. He currently works in the Hand and Foot Surgery post-op unit.
